Older people are often perceived through the prism of what they can no longer do, instead of understanding older people as a kind of potential and resources that can still develop and contribute to the social community. It is precisely for these reasons that it is very important to work on increasing society’s awareness of the possibilities and needs of old people who are unable to provide for themselves. One of the approaches is institutional accommodation, which provides a large number of services to the elderly, including health, social and psychological support. The aim of the work is to examine the level of functional competences and meaningful activities as important indicators of the quality of life of persons placed in the Retirement Home, Tuzla. For the purposes of the research, the sample included a total of 35 (N=35) persons, of which 12 (N=12) respondents were male, while 23 (N=23) respondents were female. The age of the respondents ranges from 65 to 90 years old. The research lasted from January to April 2023, it was anonymous and on a voluntary basis. The measuring instrument used in the research is part of the Quality of Life (QOL) Questionnaire, version 2.0 (Kane, 2001). The results of the research showed that elderly users who are in institutional care need more support in achieving functional competencies and meaningful activities. Most respondents state that their quality of life would improve if they went outside more often and spent time in open space.
