Abstract

The foundations of a healthy growing up are founded in childhood. The early period of child development is a period of turbulent development, but at the same time, the period when the negative effects of risk could be reduced. Early development of a child offers great opportunities for achieving it’s full potential, but also risks that various stimulating influences are ignored or missed. Vulnerable development occurs when genetic abnormalities and / or environmental influences endanger the normal development curve. When there is any delay in development it is necessary to act immediately in order to exploit developmental learning potentials. Timely recognition and early diagnosis, as well as involvement in an organized system of interventions in early childhood, improvements in children’s cognitive development are achieved, conditions are created for reducing negative and undesirable effects in future development. Therefore, the significance of early intervention and child support is growing. Such support should be systematic and well-planned. The intervention begins when the existence of a development risk is determined, and not only when the developmental difficulties become visible and interfere with the child’s development.
